Nine Months On: The Rising Threat of the Far Right and the Urgent Need for Action
Nine months ago, riots broke out across the UK, revealing the deep divisions and tensions in our society. Since then, the threat of the far right has only grown. A new coalition of charities, including Runnymede Trust, is calling on the government to take immediate action to address the rising hostility towards racially marginalised communities and those seeking refuge in the UK.
At Nafsiyat, we see firsthand the impact of hate and discrimination on mental health. The rise in far-right rhetoric and violence is not just a political issue—it has real and lasting consequences for the wellbeing of individuals and communities. The people we support often experience anxiety, depression, and trauma as a result of racism, xenophobia, and social exclusion.
We stand in solidarity with organisations calling for stronger protections, clear government leadership against hate, and greater support for communities on the receiving end of discrimination. Mental health services like ours are a crucial part of this response—providing a safe space for people affected by hate and ensuring their voices are heard.
The government must act now to challenge far-right extremism, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure that our society remains one where everyone can feel safe, valued, and included.
