The Intercultural Therapy & Outreach Project by Nafsiyat, in collaboration with the National Lottery Community Fund, is a three-year initiative starting from June 2023. The project aims to develop and expand community-based psychotherapy services for individuals facing acute mental distress, particularly those who are marginalised due to their race, cultural background, or status as refugees or asylum seekers.
Nafsiyat has partnered with four organisations in North London—Islington Bangladesh Association, Hopscotch Women’s Centre, Elizabeth House Community Centre, and Kurdish Advice Centre—to broaden the reach of these services. The project includes monthly outreach sessions focusing on issues like stress and depression, targeting adults aged 18 and above who are registered with a GP in London.
Participants interested in receiving support are assisted by Community Project Coordinators in applying for Nafsiyat's services. After an initial assessment by the clinical team, individuals may be offered medium- or long-term counselling (12 or 24 sessions). The project also provides support for related issues such as employment, benefits, and housing through Community Link Workers.
