Shayek is a Qualified Counsellor & Psychotherapist, an Islamic Scholar, Imam, a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy, based in London.
Before becoming a therapist, he studied for 6 years at an Islamic school to gain his Aalamiyyah (Imam) qualification. After graduating from his studies, he then went on to study counselling and psychotherapy. He completed his counselling training at the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Academy, alongside Sakoon Counselling Services, and he then registered as a BACP therapist.
During this time, he worked in prisons, hospitals, primary and secondary schools as a counsellor. He also worked with refugees, immigrants, and domestic abuse victims.
Currently, he works as an Integrative Psychotherapist with individuals and couples in private practice, known as, The Muslim Therapist, alongside other charity organisations. Alongside his private practice, he is also a Headteacher of an Islamic institute.
